Yemen Tourism - Shibam

Shibam is indeed one of the most interesting places to visit in Yemen. This city is particularly famous for its extra-ordinary architectural beauty. Since a long time, this old walled city has been popularly known as "the Manhattan of the desert". It houses a number of ancient skyscrapers that has added to its uniqueness.

While talking about Shibam, it should also be mentioned that no traffic is seen to run through the city, due to its constricted streets and lanes.

Most of the edifices of Shibam have wooden doors. The door locks are also made of wood. It is assumed that the skyscrapers of Shibam were built almost 500 years ago. Mud brick is considered to be the major material that was used for construction purpose. However, repair work took place several times to maintain the original order of the tall buildings. The city houses approximately 7,000 dwellers. The city maybe home to 7000 dwellers or may have a population of 7000. Please rephrase.

Apart from this, the city is also quite popular for its weekly market that is held every Friday. Though with the course of time several permanent shops are coming into existence, the open-air market of this place has still retained its popularity.

Trip Holidays also showcase a unique blend of travel and leisure photos and stories, updates, events and announcements about roads, shopping malls, hotels, bed and breakfast, restaurants, groceries and more. Not just a travel guide but one-of-a-kind discovery of people and places.
